Who am I?

I'm from Houston, a graduate of the University of Texas, a fan of the Houston Astros and Houston Texans. But this blog will be about the "greater sports", whatever that means.

Sportsman of the Week Ending 10/18/2026

The Major League Baseball League Championship Series were in full effect this week, and a lot of eyes were on the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers squaring off in the National League.  Both teams had won 100 games during the regular season.  Neither team needed more than 4 games to get through their Division Series games.  The Dodgers are coming off two straight World Series titles buffered by a payroll that includes more in tax than some teams pay their players.  The Brewers last World Series appearance was 1982.  And a star emerged.  Brewers 31-year-old journeyman delivered two critical at bats and key RBI as the Brewers swept the defending champions.  Jake Bauers, playing for his fifth team in nine years, delivered two critical at bats to tip two crucial moments, and the series.  The first moment came in a see-saw Game 2, which had the Dodgers take a lead three times in the first five innings.  The third inning critical at bat was when Bauers leveraged a 12-pitch walk to load the bases and chase 2025 postseason hero Yoshinobu Yamamoto.  Christian Yelich then delivered a two run single to invigorate the crowd in an eventual 7-4 Brewers win.  The next critical at bat was in Game 3, where Bauers battled former Cy Young award winner Blake Snell for 11-pitches ending a 3-run home run to take a lead in the Top of the 7th inning.  A lead they would not give up in a 6-2 win.  Overall, Bauers was 4-14, with the HR and 6 RBI but it was the big at bats that enable him to get the Longhorndave Sportsman of the Week!
